How your roof goes on

Six layers. Scroll and watch them close.

  1. 01

    Rafters and decking support

The structure. We check every rafter we can see from the attic for rot, cracks and sagging before anything goes on top.

  2. 02

    Decking

Plywood or OSB sheets nailed to the rafters. Soft or water-stained boards get replaced and listed on your invoice with a photo.

  3. 03

    Synthetic underlayment

A water-resistant layer over the whole deck. It is the second line of defense when wind lifts a shingle.

  4. 04

    Ice and water shield

A self-sealing membrane at eaves, valleys and around penetrations, where water collects and runs slowest.

  5. 05

    Shingles

Laid in overlapping courses from the eave up, each one covering the nails of the course below. Six nails per shingle in high-wind areas.

  6. 06

    Ridge cap and vent

Caps the peak and lets hot attic air escape. Good ventilation keeps the attic cooler in a Texas summer and the shingles from baking.

Storm clouds over houses on the edge of town

01/ 05Storm night

Hail at 2 am. The roof will not tell you until it rains again.

The next morning, ten minutes from the ground tell you more than a stranger with a ladder. Tick what you find.

Stay off the roof. Everything on this list can be checked from the ground, a window or the attic. Wet or hail-damaged shingles are slippery.

02/ 05Inspection

We circle every hit in chalk and photograph it.

About an hour on your roof and in your attic. You get the photo report either way, even if the answer is that nothing needs doing.

  • Free, booked within days after a storm.
  • Photos and chalk marks on every hit we count.
  • An honest answer, including when a claim is not worth it.

03/ 05Quote

How much roof is on your house?

Three answers give you the size in roofing squares and a guide range. One square is 100 square feet of roof. The written quote follows the inspection.

2,000 sq ft

Ground floor outline of the house, garage included if it is under the same roof.

04/ 05New roof

One or two days. Course by course, from the eave up.

Tear-off to the deck, new underlayment, shingles laid so each course covers the nails of the one below. And everything else above the gutters:

We walk the roof with you. Then the yard gets swept.

“They sent photos of two soft spots in the decking before replacing them and the invoice matched the quote line by line. Crew was gone by 4 pm and the yard was cleaner than before.”

“Two other companies wanted to replace the roof. Luis found a cracked boot around the bathroom vent pipe and fixed it in an hour.”

“Dale told me honestly the hail had not done enough to justify a claim. Saved me a deductible and a headache.”
