Home / Storm damage

Hail and wind

After the storm, before the claim.

North Texas gets hail most springs. Here is what to check safely, what to photograph and when a free inspection makes sense.

Stay off the roof. Everything on this list can be checked from the ground, a window or the attic. Wet or hail-damaged shingles are slippery.

What to do next

Four steps, in this order.

  1. 1

    Make it safe

Stay off the roof. If water is coming in, move valuables, put a bucket down and call us for an emergency tarp.

  2. 2

    Take photos

Photograph dents, granules and stains from the ground with the date. Keep a hailstone in the freezer next to a coin for scale.

  3. 3

    Free inspection

We inspect the roof, mark every hit with chalk and send you a photo report. You decide what to do with it.

  4. 4

    Claim or not

If the damage is real, you call your insurer. We can meet the adjuster on the roof. If it is not worth a claim, we say so.

We are roofers, not insurance agents or lawyers. We document damage and explain what we see; coverage decisions are made by your insurer under your policy. Many policies have a deadline for reporting storm damage, so check yours.
